GRIFFIN in Springfield, Ohio

John GRIFFIN and his wife Mary CHURCHILL  were the parents of Bridget GRIFFIN (1863- 9 Sep 1930) who married Peter GARRITY. Bridget GRIFFIN Garrity's obituary listed her last name as GARRITTY (double T), but since all other vital records spell it GARRITY, it is a misprint. Her obituary states 6 brothers and 2 sisters but I don't know if that is the number of ones who outlived her. Some notes I took in 1988 indicated 11 children, but this could be in error.

Maria "Mary" GARRITY who married John GRIFFIN below was the sister of Peter GARRITY who married Bridget GRIFFIN (further down the page). I don't know if Maria "Mary" Garrity's husband, John GRIFFIN, is a son or relative of the John or Edward GRIFFIN who is the father of Bridget GRIFFIN. But some relationship is likely.

William of Columbus, and Robert of Dayton; one sister, Mrs. C. C. STINE of Dayton; three grandsons, Cpl. Edward GRIFFIN, Jr., Pfc. Richard GRIFFIN, both in the U. S. Army in the Philippines, and John GRIFFIN of Dayton, and one great granddaughter, Angela GRIFFIN. The body was removed to the O'Brien funeral home. Peter GARRITY b. 1863 in Ireland d. 29 Sep 1915 married BRIDGET GRIFFIN, daughter of EDWARD GRIFFIN and MARY CHURCHILL. 

Peter owned a saloon at Spring and Monroe in 1900 and  later in 1910 sold soft drinks at 320 S. Spring St. while living at 833 S. Center St. according to to Bill Kiefer. A newspaper article stated Peter and his wife Bridget came from Pittsburgh in the 1890s-and  that Peter was a car inspector and engineer for the railroad. Perhaps they were married in Pittsburgh? Also, Bridget GRIFFIN Garrity's obituary  mispelled her name GARRITTY with double Ts (no documentation but probably a misprint since no listings for GARRITTY were found in any Ohio Online death indexes)
